Most blokes want to be a best man at some point, so when my best mate asked me to do the honours I was made up. The best part of being a best man is undoubtedly organising the stag party, and because I was so excited I got something planned pretty much straight away.
I don't think there's anybody in our group of friends that isn't a massive petrol head, so an off-road karting experience was the obvious choice. A couple of us had been wanting to try it for ages, so the grooms big day gave us the perfect excuse. Once I’d got everything confirmed I booked the off-road karting experience for 8 of us, and the lads couldn't wait.
We'd all tried normal karting before so when we arrived at the site we were all buzzing about getting behind the wheel of an off-road kart. We got signed in and kitted up straight away, which meant all we had to do was complete a short safety briefing. The briefing covered all the safety elements, as well as how to get the best out of the karts. So when it came to taking to the track we knew exactly what to do.
Instead of being a race our off-road karting experience was more of a time trial, which meant it was a pure test of speed. Even though there were only two of us on the track at once it was just as competitive, and it meant you could really push the karts to the limit. I was expecting the karts to be pretty quick, but when you put your foot down they can seriously shift. The track makes them seem faster too, and when you hit some of the bumps and divots in the track you feel like you're going to take off!
Once we'd all had a stint at the wheel and set our best times our off-road karting experience came to an end, and even though some of the lads' times were shocking everybody was absolutely buzzing. Somehow the groom managed to win it and his prize was a passenger ride with one of the instructors, which absolutely scared the life out of him! What a day!
